I've received a 75% settlement offer from AA. The debt is legit, and became late as of October 2009 with the original creditor.

They are claiming in the letter that the benefits of this is:
"A zero balance on your XXX BANK NAME account with us."
and
"A paid account letter upon request"

The bottom of the letter also states that "The law limits how long you can be sued on a debt. Because of the age of your debt, we will not sue you for it. If you do not pay the debt, we may continue to report it to the credit reporting agencies as unpaid."

Now... I can pay the settlement amount, but I'm curious, is it worth doing so?

What state do you live in???

They are going to continue to report it whether you pay it or not. A paid collection is really no better than an unpaid one.
