We have been dealing with Asset Acceptance for 27 months now and they still have not changed the status on our credit report. It still says the same thing "Open Account" "Collection Account" past due as of today and the original amount plus interest is listed as the "Original Amount". Can they do that legally. We live in Texas.

Have you sent them a certified letter requesting their removal from your credit report?

I have been dealing with Asset Acceptance (they have been nice to me so far) and they stated (including on the settlement letter they sent me) that they would send me a letter that the debt had been satisfied and remove themselves from my CR but it would take 30 days from the last payment.

I would suggest writing them and requesting that letter and for them to remove themselves and then write all 3 credit agencies and attach copies of the letter AA sends you.

Did you ever ask them to validate the debt before you paid them? Did they actually own your debt? Did you ask for strict and complete proof of every item pertaining to you in their files? Most of these junk debt buyers pay pennies for your account and only have a few lines about you on their computer screen.
