I just got a call from a JERK from ACS. I have a home equity line that with so much going on in my life, I defaulted. I owe $19000. I initially got a call last week from this guy who said that I had to pay $3000 to get a payment arrangement. Now who has that kind of money just laying around like that? I told him that I am willing to pay it but just can't afford the down payment. He kept overtalking me, saying, "so you aren't going to take care of this?" After I told him that I never said that, he got so rude that I hung up.
What's the worse can happen? Its tied into my house and I don't want to lose my house? Can that happen? Because its a secured loan, I won't be able to get any help through any credit/debt counselors. Could I just pay them what I want, do you think they will take it?
Please help, I want to pay it but they are now asking for the full balance, claiming they never offered a payment plan...
I am sending them a cease and desist letter today so he can stop calling me at work,

Hang on, there'll be some more-experienced help along in a bit.
Hang on, there'll be some more-experienced help along in a bit. I don't feel qualified to jump in on this one.
Meanwhile, seriously consider sending them a demand for validation, to buy yourself some time if nothing else. They have to cease collection activity until they validate, that's the law.
