I live in Texas. We had a 20 dollar gas bill for May from Atmos Energy. My wife wrote a check and mailed it in. The check was not deposited for 10 days or so and ended up bouncing by 12 cents! We then went to a local pay station and paid it. The letter that they sent to let us know the check had been returned says "This matter will be referred to your local District Attorney if not paid within 10 days". Since this check was written to pay a debt, can they even put that on the notice?
