After burning out sending debt validation letters and receiving calls at work and calls to relatives and being sold like a debt slave from one bottom feeder to another, I finally contacted an attorney that I found right here on this site. Several people posted satisfatory reviews about him and he was right here in Clearwater Fla. where I live! I have an initial phone consultation with him tonight.
When I first called I got him on his cell and I was apologetic. I told him I got the number off this site and he said he put it there. I wonder if the person who posted the thread was him. It was really under the radar as the title did not sound anything like an plug.
I will keep you posted. I hope my experience will be encouraging to others who think they can't afford a lawayer. What it boils down to is that you will eventually wind up paying for someone elses in many cases.

I wish I had done this sooner. He works on a contingency basis and has already sent at least one demand letter out. People have to be aware that they can hire a lawyer. I went to court once by myself and was railroaded and wound up paying the creditors legal fees. If I had a lawyer it never would have gone to court. Like he put it, it is a numbers game. The collectors expect to settle and even pay a small portion of cases and will avoid the expense of court in most cases when you have an attorney! The majority is what they bank on. Advice: Don't be the majority

A contingency basis meaning - there's a chance he will receive monies for his services? Well, I think that's great, but in my case (Unifund at the moment) there really isn't anything to be gained (monetarily speaking), so basically, I have to take a chance and defend myself, or at least look out for my best interest in the hopes I am doing things the right way. Because seriously, I can't afford an Attorney. :?

This attorney covers all of Florida. He is going after a rent a lawyer collection agency for numerous violations of the fdcpa and posing as a law office when in actuality they are a collection agency. I got a copy of the letter today that went out! He will try to force an out of court settlement and gave a 20 day time frame for the office to respond before he files in the circuit court. This is just one. I told him I have enough to keep him busy for a long time. His payment is in the settlement as costs over and above the amount recovered. He has been successful against many of the agencies we all know and love. If anyone lives in Florida and needs an attorney to handle harrassment by collectors please PM me and I will give you his info. With all the knowledge that I have aquired from this site I am not a lawyer and learned that quickly when I went to court without one. There are others out there to help you just have to look. NACA is the best place to start.

I found my lawyer after reading one of the posts that recommended helpingtexas.com. I also double checked to see if he was on naca.net, and he was. After taking him recordings of the harassment, the debt was wiped out and the ca paid ME thousands of dollars. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Sorry if I wasn't supposed to say where I found him, but these lawyers who work on contingency fee really do know there stuff!
