I have a debt from an online university that was charged off as bad debt on my credit report. Now I have AvanteUSA harrassing me at work. I have asked them four times to stop contacting me at work. Every person I have encountered have been very unprofessional and rude. At times getting very aggravated when I ask them valid questions.

If the debt has been charged off as bad debt by the original company and it appreas on my credit report., do I have to pay them?


First of all, register a complaint against Avante USA with FTC for harassing you at your workplace. They can't disturb you at your office time and again. Next, ask them to send a debt validation letter to you. Send a Cease and Desist letter to them if you don't receive any reply from them. If they validate the debt, then you should pay the money. You can settle the debt yourself or consult a professional debt relief company. Once you have cleared your debt, request them to update the account status on your credit report.
