In order to garnish your wages or your bank account, your creditor will have to get a judgment against you from the court. If he gets the judgment, then only he will be able to garnish your wages. Your wife won't be affected due to this.

If you and your wife have a joint bank account, then any monies in it can be taken. If the debt was incurred while married then your wife could be held liable as well...though I am not sure on this as some states have community property laws that would effect garnishments.
