Glasser & Glasser bank account lien without notice
Date: Wed, 09/19/2012 - 17:44
My bank has a lien for over $8K on my account, through Glasser & Glasser collections. I was not served papers or officially notified in any other way prior. I found out when I was checking my account balances online. I've been receiving unemployment since May 2011 and get occasional freelance/contract gigs. Otherwise, I'm collecting less than $200/week income. And I've already been told by VEC that unemployment benefits are soon to run out. Can they legally take money that barely pays for my necessities, like food, shelter, etc?

Did you know you had a judgment against you? You were sued....did you receive a summons??
They do not warn you in advance that you are going to be levied...that kind of defeats the purpose. However your unemployment is exempt funds. Contact the legal department of your bank and the agency who is administering the levy,.

Maybe you can file a motion to vacate the judgment stating improper service? But that will not be of much of help since the collectors would refile. What was the loan about?
