I am a bill collector at an agency in atlanta , ga i stumbled onto this site from a search for bud hibbs who is well known throughout the collection field as lying scum and i can speak from personnel experience that they are some bill collectors that are scum that do lie that do cheat and steal and that i would say the majority of these people are a pain to deal with but at the same time the people i have to deal with to do my job are also scum who lie cheat and steal so in this business where u have crooks on both side of the fence i would say its in every bodies best interest just to pay there bills or not use credit or credit cards and not to rely on budd hibbs or anyone else for that matter because its a good chance they are just lying to you

The issue is deeper than just paying bills or not. For some people, the choice is between paying off a credit card or eating. Sometimes this is poor personal finance skills, other times it may be unforeseen circumstances. In my case, I have all my bills paid, I just have a shady collector trying to collect on a fictitious balance.

The best thing about this site is that it exposes the lying scum. Legit collectors should be grateful for sites like this since it helps thin the ranks of the scum. There's nothing wrong with a debtor learning their rights and options as long as the collector is playing by the rules.

let me chime in frank,i worked with a few CA'S that were cordial, fair and let me make payments.those were for CC'S.the pdl collectors are another story.i for one don't take kindly to being threatened, harrased, belittled.one stupid CA actually told me they would start garnishing on fri.this was on that wed 6 months ago.so while i feel the need to clear my books.i won't deal with bottom feedrs.
hope that cleared some things up.

Well stated Notindebt.

I had a collection agency contact me once to collect on a mortgage from 1994. Well, 1. I never owned a house before. 2. I was only 14 at the time, Common sense told me that the debt was not mine, but that didn't stop them from threatening me with a lawsuit, etc. I eventually just let my parents talk to them and they never called back. It's CA's like that which give the rest of the industry such a bad name. It's no wonder why there are trust issues when dealing with collection agencies. Especially when the "bad eggs" are the ones that are heard about the most.
