I got a phone call yesterday that was pretty upsetting. It was a bill collection from a collection agency that I had never heard of in regards to my son's hospital stay last year. He was pretty rude bill collector too, I do have his name and I may report hiim. However, I'm sure all bill collectors appear to be rude.

Anyway, he advised me that I needed to pay $3400.00 RIGHT NOW because this was going to be the final attempt. I have NEVER received any bills or notices about owing this money so I told the man for one I didn't have the money to pay it, and for two, I wasn't going to pay it anyway.

My son has regular insurance and medical assistance. I was told everything would be covered. that's the whole point of having double insurance! He told me that this was the amount i owed after insurance, I really do not believe him.

So now I need to sit on the phone with the insurance companies and figure out what is the truth and why they didn't pay in full. And how come I never got a bill?!

I'm wondering if there are other bills out there sitting on my credit like this. My son is constantly in and out of the hospital, and we were always told the stays were covered because of his double insurance and him being special needs.

If I can figure out what this collection agency name is, I'll be back to post about that and see if any of you have dealt with them.

Thanks for listening! Here I thought we were getting all of our bills taking care of, and now I have a new can of worms to deal with.

If you have the name, you should Google it as well as search the BBB website for more information. I am willing to bet they are a junk debt buyer who is trying to intimidate you. Don't let them. Find out the name of the company, the original creditor and the amount due and do a little research.

Let us know the name, I am sure someone has some experiences to share.

Leah-- Yes, it's state medical assitance. That is his secondary insurance, and our insurance thru my husband's work is his primary. I wonder if this is a balance or what. I guess I need to call the medical assitance company and find out what is going on. I wasn't even aware of any charges. I hate when they find bills out of the blue and you don't get the copies-- and then they automatically think you are lying ;(

Not all state assistance will pay what is left over on the bill. It depends on what type of assistance it is. I would contact the insurance company first thing and find out who dropped the ball. Ignore the collection calls until you find out what is what.

If the state did pay it you will need to go to the hospital and get a written reciept of proof. Then go to annualcredit report.com and get your free credit report from TransUnion, Equifax and Experian and see if this bill is showing up. If so mail ytour paid reciept to each crediting agencies along with a letter of dispute.
