Please help. Bodog Life Outstanding Balance.. Im 18 =*(

Please respond to my email instead of with a post, because I am unsure if I will remember to check this forum, even though I will bookmark it.
I have a very similar problem with Bodog Life as well. I registered with Bodog in October of 2007 and deposited 50$US in Bodog Credit with a credit card. I went ahead and made a number of winning sports bets (I'm guessing that totaled to 50$) and no later than 24 hours later I received an E-mail stating that my account was being disabled as they had discovered I was a Canadian Resident. I immediately sent a response asking what would happen to my deposit and my bets. They said that my deposits and the charges to my credit card would be canceled and all activity would be voided. So how do I have an outstanding balance of 53.33$?? attached below is the correspondence to date between myself and Bodog Life's Accounts Department.
Dear Accounts Department,
With regards to the supposed outstanding balance of $53.33 I would like to direct your attention to the Underlined e-mail sent to me by your Security Department with special attention to the bolded sentence. The way I understand this is, after disabling my account, and voiding any past and future activity on the account, Bodog Life DECIDED I owed $53.33 for no legitimate reason. At the moment I am restraining from perceiving this as a fraudulent charge and an attack upon my good name and credit as it concerns Bodog Life, the country in which Bodog Life is located and any affiliated companies or countries. I care more for the principle than for one 100$ American bill. I would like this resolved ASAP!
Finally I would like to conclude by saying that I did not personally receive any notification of this outstanding balance before tonight, as I used this email for the sole purposes of playing Bodog Life and it had outlived its uses when I had been informed that the account was being disabled. Please respond in a timely manner as I will be checking this e-mail daily until this fiasco is resolved and my Name, E-mail, Billing Information as well as my Billing address are all PERMANENTLY removed from Account####### or Account####### is closed for good. I no longer trust your company to respect a standard code of business ethics, as the last time I left with a positive balance of 0$ and a disabled account, this circus occured.
Sincerely,
Mr. M........

Pay the money and let it be a lesson for gambling on-line. You are playing with fire and with people who are neither ethical or concerned with playing by any rules other than their own.
Go mow a couple yards or shovel a couple driveways and put this behind you. You will be better off for it.
You will spend a lot more than $53.33 fighting this and you will ultimately lose anyway. Chock the $53.33 up to stupid tax as Dave Ramsey says.

"guest by design" is really just another way of saying "I dont really know what I am talking about so I will remain anonymous".
Dont pay any attention to guest--you have it right there in black and white from them in the email--this means that they should have returned the deposit that you put down at the start of this mess. Check your credit card records to make sure that they returned the funds. You cannot be made to pay for a service you were not allowed to receive, and you certainly did not receive any monetary benefit from this, so you are not liable for that "outstanding balance". If this doesnt clear it up, it will be only because Bodog is being ignorant. They clearly told you that all activity was void, so there cannot be an outstanding balance.

I'm sorry but I have to totally disagree with the guest! I understand that gambling online is a risky business and in many states completely illegal. But this is a very clear case. They refunded his money and he had a 0 balance. THEN this company decides to charge him...exactly for what? What life lesson can you get from that? How to be swindled????
You should inform them in no uncertain terms that any activity on your credit reports made by them or any company they hire is a violation as these charges are in error as you have a 0 balance. I would further contact every agency you can think of and complain. If it does go to a collection agency, then DV them and force them to show you how these charges were made anf to explain HOW these charges were made if the whole account has been voided and ended with a 0 balance.
ok just to clarify
1st. The card was in my Pa's name because i was a minor before moving out of the states to canada. it has since been cut and closed since I returned to the states and acquired my own card since im 18 (and have been a month prior to bodog although ive raked in some dough on fulltilt NO PROBLEM. This is important because i want this to go away with as little hassle as possible and without him finding out.. he'll be pissed considering hes an attorney and either im in trouble for fraud, or hes in trouble for online gambling in a state where its illegal... ya catch?
2nd. I was never billed because the credit card transaction was canceled within 24 hours, and on my old account all credit card transactions were generally processed after a week. I went through every transaction during that billing period and I couldnt seem to find any that seemed out of place (i know to expect a random name)
3rd. I never saw that the balance within bodog was 0$ Thats what i extrapolated from the email they originally sent me. When i try to login in any fashion, it just says your accounts disabled.
4th. Thanks guest.. but ive learned all the lessons i can handle for a bit... in a few months itll be time to start passing these on to my son :?

oh ya and most importantly thanks skydiver for the email... to save skydiver the effort,
couldn anyone clue me in as to whether these emails are legally binding and as to the country within which Bodog Life is established? I have tri-citzenship and i can see this very easily affecting me in just my travels or in attempts to settle somewhere and apply for credit as this would be some of the first things affecting my credit score. i mean 50$ is definately not the end of the world and i could care less if this didnt involve my father.. i would like it if bodog could reckognize their mistake

I think that your attitude shows quite a bit about your character. You have a Pa (whatever that is) that was nice enough (not to mention dumb as hell) to lend you his credit card and then you want to stand on principles while possibly hosing your attorney friend.
I misread the email thinking that you were complaining about losing your deposit. So that's on me.
Are you sure that you didn't place a bet and lose and that is what they are trying to collect?
You are 18 and have a son either on the way or in place.
You moved from the US to Canada.
You are actively involved with on-line gambling.
I sense not much success in your future dude. Good luck!

guest, it would be very helpful if you could try learning how to read posts before you try to "educate" people incorrectly. In the first post of this thread, he said this:
Quote:
I registered with Bodog in October of 2007 and deposited 50$US in Bodog Credit with a credit card. I went ahead and made a number of winning sports bets (I'm guessing that totaled to 50$) and no later than 24 hours later I received an E-mail stating that my account was being disabled |
In other words, he had $50 in the account, then he made some winning bets, so he should have been at that point around $100 positive, not in the negative at all. When you bet money, you bet an amount to try to win more than that amount. you dont bet $50 to try to end up with only $50 in the end.
Then, you again missed an important clue:
Thank you for contacting the Bodog Security Department. We have cancelled both deposits you had made into your account. Therefore, your wagers and any activity will be void.
That doesnt just say "your winnings will be void". It says ALL ACTIVITY WILL BE VOID. This means, if he lost money on bets, THAT LOSS IS VOIDED. Meaning, HE DOESNT OWE THE MONEY FROM ANY LOSS THAT COULD HAVE TAKEN PLACE. They cancelled the account, refunded his deposits, and VOIDED ALL RESULTS, positive or negative, that took place.
So, no matter how his bets ended up, they voided everything. Now, you tell me, how on God's green earth can you still sit there and say he owes this money? Here's a hint--follow the law to get your answer.
umm dude... this is me alain by the way. if you read this email
umm dude... this is me alain by the way.
if you read this email i sent them after they told me that they were disabling the account because i was in canada and their response... AND OMFG they didnt even spell canceled right those fukin retards.
By the way im trying really hard not to sound rude, cocky, young and arrogant as i realize i am a little to a lot of all of the above and i need to quickly get my act together. I still have a few months to get organized and thats exactly what im doing, lucky i went through my email accounts.
Finally.. sorry native english speaker, Francais is my first language and I didn't realize Pa doesnt translate from french... it means DaDa, or Father.......... sigh... i also added the emails below for your ease... again sorry for my horrid attitude.. ive been up all night dealing with a variety of issues.... sigh..
Thanks again skydiver your the best =)

oh btw they never mentioned closing the account.. i wish they had but i figured it would be fine if i let it be in this weird "disabled" state... which is why at the end of my email to them i demand they close my account as i do not believe the follow sound business ethics

Well, I am not trying to be rude (channeling Simon Cowell there) :D to the OP.
When I took french in High School, Dad was Pere....maybe Pa was the the informal of the word.
My point which was apparently lost in my posts was that you are dealing with lowlives in these online gambling sites. So expecting them to play by the rules and behave is a bit of a stretch.
Like I said--and especially now that we know it was your Pa--I would just pay the darned debt and not have it following you or him around. Yes, you could probably fight it but you are crossing Country jurisdictions and really you will spend more than $53.33 fighting what you may or may not win. If they did put it on your credit report, then it harms you in more ways than one. To get it off, you will have to probably hire an attorney for what $3,000 or so because I am sure they will find some way to validate the debt.
Just pay it after you get it in writing that it pays your account in full and let it be a good lesson of what dealing with these fools can be like. I always wondered....if someone builds up $10,000 worth of winnings, what is to keep the site owners from taking it. Or better yet, just taking off with the accounts of every single user and then who are you going to sue? Al Gore for inenting the internet? :D

Thank-you very much for your reconstructed post Guest by Design.
Thank-you very much for your reconstructed post Guest by Design. I don't have to worry about attorney fees. I have 2 attorneys as parents, and they are even currently paying another to be my Canadian legal representation since my child is in canada. I am worried about a fraudulent charge from Bodog, a bad credit rating, and my Father finding out. The dollar cost is not material, its the time consumation my father will have to deal with. I simply wanted to know your guys input. So far 2 against paying, and 1 who says just pay it if its shortchange.. In all truth im probably gonna end up agreeing with Guest by Design if Bodog doesnt come up with a resolution.. Which they most likely expect me to do.. so why the hell would the want to fix my problem anyways... i sense a viscous circle.
Thanks for all your help again all of you guys.
I REALLY want to know if those emails they sent me are legally binding?

You got it. I kind of liken it to dealing with the mob and complaining about their service or the guy that calls the cops because he dealer gave him bad dope! :D There really is no incentive to them reversing the charge as you can't do squat to them.
The "RIGHT" thing to do is to fight them and make an example of them.
The "EXPEDITIOUS" thing to do is pay the money and be done with them.
Unfortunately, with the way legal proceedings are...the right thing becomes so costly and time consuming, it turns out to be the worst choice by far.
BTW good luck with your child, I was out of line earlier. Having a child that young is good for two reasons....you can keep up with them and they will be out of college before you reach your early 40's! :D
