BN&A has a judgment against me for a citibank card that I had. It was my own fault as I didn't show up to the court date out of fear. Again, my stupid mistake, one I won't make again.

Any how. I came into a little bit of money and want to settle the debt. I owe about $5,000. I offered them $2,000 as I have other debts to pay off with the money I'm receiving.

I contacted them in the beginning of the week with my offer. The lady I spoke with said they had to contact Citibank to see if they would accept the offer. I didn't hear back. So I called the next day and got their voicemail. I called Wed. and was told that someone would be in touch by Thurs. evening. Didn't hear anything yesterday so I called again this afternoon and got the voicemail again.

When I talked to them I fibbed and told them I was only receiving $2,000 and that was all I had to settle with. This debt hasn't been paid on since early 2006, so I figured that would get me somewhere with them. Maybe at least onto a payment plan. I also fibbed and told them I did NOT have a checking account and would have to pay them via money order or cashiers check.

Now that they're taking so long, I'm worried that they are scouring my local banks trying to find my checking account. And when they do, they're going to place a lien on it and take the entire $5,000.

At this point, should I contact Citibank directly as it appears they still own the debt and BN&A are just suing FOR them?

Thanks Paul. And am I right to assume in the mean time there is nothing I can do to prevent them from placing a lien on my bank account now? The money is getting deposited on Mon. but it won't be available for 10 business days because the bank has to verify the funds.

I'm just worried, I'm only getting a limited amount and I don't want them eating up almost all of it just because I made a settlement offer. I still need money to settle another judgment and to pay for a few months of COBRA coverage since my husband is switching jobs. If they take all of it I will be screwed.

Actually, they just called when I finished posting my last response.

They said Citibank counter-offered my $2000 offer with $2600. At this point, I just want this done with so I agreed. They said it can be paid over 90 days. So I'll pay $2,000 11/16, then I'll pay $300 12/16 and $300 1/16.

The lady I spoke with said they would be sending something out in writing the first of the week. I'm just going to be glad that this judgment will be out of the way. The other one I have, I'm on a payment plan for, but I'm going to see if I can settle that one so I don't have to continue making monthly payments.

Thanks for all your help Paul!
