You should send debt validation letters to the CA by certified mail and the CA needs to validate the debt within 30 days from the date of receipt of the DV letter else they need to stop collecting the debt. You can find sample DV letters if you visit the link debt settlement letters.

I found the information from creditinfocenter which I think is wrong. I am thankful to the moderators for pointing me out my mistakes. I am learning a lot from this forum now-a-days.
