Received a voicemail earlier today from a Ashley Payne with the "County Processing and Summons Office" letting me know that a formal complaint has been filed against me regarding a bad check and she needs to verify my home and work address so I can be served. However, I can avoid going to court by calling 1-855-823-2801 ext 143. I called that number, mostly out of curiousity but also to let them know I was reporting them to the AG of New York. When I called back the number I got a recording stating "Test Ok" and then it hung up on me. So, she gave me a bad number.
Well about an hour later, she calls me and this time I answered. She stated that she had given me a wrong number previously and the client could instead be reached at 1-855-823-1623 ext 323 and that she could transfer me right now. I asked her for the office she was calling from and she again told me "County Processing and Summons Office". I asked her for her number and she gave me the 855-823-2801 ext 143 number that didn't work before. I told her that and she ignored me. Next she said she could transfer me to the client at the new number she gave me. I asked who that was and she said her supervisor who she could transfer me to right now. I verified the ext 143 and she said again she could transfer me. I said "No, thank you! I just wanted to get information from you to report to the Attorney General of New York". She then said "Good luck in court" and hung up.
I haven't written a check since 2007 but had some illegal payday loan lenders take out more money from my bank account then they were supposed to so I closed my account two months ago and they have been bothering me since so I think this is one of them.
Anything to worry about or just another scam to try to get me to pay them right now??

Some bottom feeding illegal collection agency has obviously bought your supposed debt for probably pennies on the dollar.. no legitimate company calls ahead to serve you.. they just do.. and you will probably hear from them a few more times and then they will stop - from my experience a few months down the road you will get the call from someone else saying same thing - when they turn around and sell.. TOTAL SCAM.. keep vm's if can - I would report to the FTC..

I now received a voicemail from Stacy Mitchell from 1-855-847-2682 stating the same as above. Except this time she also called and got rude with my mother at her house. I called back and spoke to a Stacy Mitchell who stated I am going to court for Fraud and it is their responsibility to contact me to make me aware of it as she works for the State of New York. When I called it said United. She said I will be served papers today. Please tell me this is still the same scam. I already reported the above caller. This is driving me crazy!!
