Is it legal for creditors to call me on Sunday to attempt to collect an overdue amount?

Yes it is, they can call seven days a week.

They can call you any day of the week, during 'reasonable' hours (which I believe to be 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. - someone please correct me if I'm wrong), and they can call your home, work or cell phone - until you instruct them not to. (Best way to avoid that in the future is not to give any potential creditor your work number - only the home number - that way they won't be calling you at work, unless they manage to find your work number somewhere.)

If you ask them to cease calling you at work, the best way to handle it is to tell them that you are not allowed to receive personal calls at work, and tell them to call you at home. If you don't want them to contact you by phone at all, send them a letter indicating that they may only communicate with you in writing.

I've asked CA's NOT to call on Sundays and they still do ( or shall I say a CERTAIN one does). This certain one has called after 9:00PM a few times. I just hung up.

Sorry , I hate to be the bearer of bad new but a collector may contact you 7 days a week in person, by mail, telephone, telegram, or fax. However, a debt collector may not contact you at inconvenient times or places, such as before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m., unless you agree. A debt collector also may not contact you at work if the collector knows that your employer disapproves of such contacts. I hope this helps.

That is not always the case, At one point under Massachusetts debt collection laws, a debt collector cannot contact you more than 2 times in one week. I think it has since been changed. now it says

Causing a telephone to ring or engaging any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with intent to annoy, abuse, or harass any person at the called number.

They also cannot visit your house more than once in a 30 day period.

I had'nt heard of debt collectors calling on holidays..Sunday yes but not on holidays. Unfortunately, greed never takes a vacation and as long as you live in a world where too many people value things and money over people and humanity....than you're going to keep seeing this type of thing.
