Don't worry about these harrassment tactics. These debt collectors are full of millions of "ways to intimidate you into paying". My daughter has a few "financial errors" and has been harrassed to the point she allowed these people access to her bank account for withdraw of money she did not even have because it was the only way to get them off the phone. Now we have had to add the banks overdrawn fees to her summary of debt to address. I do not let her speak to them anymore. She has given me authority to speak on her behalf, I do the dealing and I do it my way. I love how they harrass her and when she tries to make an effort it still isn't good enough. They want what they want. When they try to bully me I simply put them at the end of the line and move on to the next debt. They call back pleading to settle and if I agree to the terms I have them fax me a letter of the terms. They are not as in control as they think, you have the money they are after, don't let them bully you. I say this: Relax! If they take you to court, represent yourself. You would probably sit with a mediator who will at best help you settle on a lesser amount, which closes the debt. A wage garnishment may only give them 10% of your wages and that would be a disadvantage to them. Maybe these credit card companies should be sued for allowing consumers to get into this situation. I am sure that my daughter was allowed to charge several times on her cards after she fell delinquent. To some extent they deserve what they get...even if it's nothing! Keep your chin up!
