I'm $5000 in debt on a cc and in a position where I simply cannot pay a dime of it. I'm on SS and Disability to the tune of $1200 a month and depend on every cent of it. If I write a letter to the collection Agancey that 's trying to collect the 5000 about my situation is it their common practice to sue regardless? Thank You

I think if you're unable to pay a single dime then call your creditor first and tell them that you're unable to payoff your debt because of the said reasons. If they refuse to hear you and directs you to the collection agency then only call them and explain your situation and your inability to payoff a single dime. Also tell them that you don't want them to call you or any of your relatives or friends.

My dad's girlfriend had a bunch of bill's when she became disabled and she had someone write a forgiveness of debt letter to the companies telling them she was now perm. disabled and was unable to pay. She also sent along proof of the disability and I want to say about 2/3 of them were forgiven. Mainly because the company knew they wouldn't have been able to collect on them anyway.
