Garnishment: How Does It Work?
Date: Wed, 01/07/2009 - 21:22
Ok...I know they say there are no dumb questions... :?:
I'm going to court tomorrow. First time, Capitol One suing, I only owe 600-ish. I don't work (I'm a mommy), my husband is basically self-employed.
1. What is the likelihood that they will garnish my bank account? (In know you can't give me an yguarantees or anything, just a guesstimate)
2. How does it work? Somebody told me tonight that the bank will notify them if I put money in my account and basically give it to them. I always thought that they had to watch your account themselves and take it if they happened to find it. :? I'm planning on closing my bank accounts anyway (because of this), but we're moving out of state in a couple of weeks and I'd rather not have to close them until then; I can if need to, however, in the mean time I have to pay bills and there is at least one payment that is automatically deducted from my account (hate that) next week and I don't know if I can get it changed that fast.
Anybody have any ideas?

when you went to court for this did you have to go into a court room with everybody there or was it just a small room with the lawyer or who ever
