I called Cap 1 at 800-955-7070 earlier today trying to work out something on my account. The settlement amount that they wanted was ridiculous ($5906 on $5900 acct). I told them that I couldn't settle but just wanted to know the amount in case I could borrow it from family. I then told him that I was going to see if someone could loan me some funds to prevent charge off. He wanted me to go ahead & give him authorization to debit my account later today. I said "no, I will call you back this afternoon when I see if I can secure any funds." He informed me that he got off at 5pm and would try after 4pm to reach me. I just arrived home and have rec'd 5 calls on my caller id from Global International that had been trying to collect my account in the past few months. I honestly believed that I was speaking directly with Capital One, as it is their # that I called. Can Capital One do this without informing me they are not the ones I am speaking with?
