So about a month ago I get a dunning letter from Capitol Recovery Associates that they bought my CashnetUSA account and that the balance was $620.00. My CashnetUSA account number was on the letter and the balance was correct according to my records except I had sent in a $50 money order to CashnetUSA which was cashed. Everything looked and sounded on the up and up (silly me) So I called Capitol and set up a payment arrangement for $350.00 for the end of the month (Sept) and agreed to pay the remaining portion, (minus the $50 I paid cashent) next month (Oct). Stupid me did not send a debt validation letter!!! So I called CashnetUSA to see about getting proof of the them cashing the $50 money order. The lady told me the money order was forwarded to AIS (totally different than the agency I'd been dealing with). I told her...wait, what about Capitol?, she said that in their computer system that my account was sold to AIS and she gave me the number. So I called AIS to see if they are related to Capital and the rep tells me no, and that they have no record of my name in their system. So I called Cashnetusa back to tell them AIS has never heard of me and was told I needed to speak to a manager, and then was hung up on, after calling back about six times of course I was never able to talk to a manager.
Now what do I do? I have paid Capitol $350 yet the original creditor CashnetUSA is now saying the account was sold to AIS, yet upon calling AIS they have never heard of me. ????
What a stressful and ridiculous cycle! Any advise??
How did you pay the $350? Did it debit from your account yet?
How did you pay the $350? Did it debit from your account yet? If it hasn't, put a stop on it IMMIDIATELY! Actually, now that they have your account info it wouldn't be a bad idea to close the account out as well.
Next, access your credit report to see which company is reporting this debt on your credit reports. Send out a DV to THAT company as well as Capitol Recovery company who aledges (sp?) owning this debt. Make sure to include a line that states that they are NOT to contact you via phone, they must contact you via postal mail ONLY. Then mail out the letters certified return receipt. Try to get it out today if you can.
Also, I wouldn't talk to Capitol Recovery on the phone again.
When I answer the phone and someone asks for me, I always ask who is calling. Usually they just state a name. I ask where are they calling from. Sometimes they refuse. I then tell them "Look, your calling MY house. If you want to speak to _________, you need to tell me where you are calling from." If they still refuse, hang up. And if the tell you they are calling from a collecting agency, just say "Sorry, but ________ is not home. Can I take a message?" When they ask who you are, tell them nothing. It's none of their business.
Did you get the agreement in writing from Capital Recovery Assoc
Did you get the agreement in writing from Capital Recovery Associates?

I paid the $350 from a money order and I checked with the 800 number and it has been cashed. Next I will check my credit, thats a good idea! Thanks!
And yes, I made sure and got a letter from Capitol that stated I would be paying $350 in September and the rest in October. The letter was a word document that was attached in an email.
See if you can get a physical address for CashNet and send them
See if you can get a physical address for CashNet and send them a copy of the letter you received from Capitol. Since you don't seem to be getting anywhere with them by telephone, maybe a letter sent certified mail/return receipt requested would help? Tell them they need to get their act together and verify which CA they sent the debt to. Make sure to state the name of the woman you have been dealing with there and how rude she has been.
Also, is there a way you can get a copy of the proof the money order was cashed? I might suggest seeing if you can, then keeping it in a safe place in case, along with the copy of the letter from Capitol, if this ever pops up again.
