car was repo'd, went to pick up my property and got the run around

went to pick up my property, andf had money in my pocket to get the car back if i could. got the run around by them saying, "the guy that has the key to the storage is out on repo's. waited all day. i was tld to come back the next day when the financing lady was there. keep in mind all my tools for work were in there, and this dealership is currently 3 hours from where i live! can they turn me down when i go to collect my property? is it legal to tell me no you can't have it right now when i was there during normal hours10:00 am to 7:30 pm.

thats what sucks about dealerships/tow yards, they can pretty much do whatever they want. but you need to make sure they are not charging you a daily storeage fee. i've heard of some tow companies even charging people to get their personal property back, depends on how shady they are. sounds like this is a buy here pay here lot? i would expect that kind of behavior from them. most are shady anyways. let me know how it goes and good luck.
