credit card using attorneys office to harass people

i just received a call from a person just identifying themselves not the purpose. then he explained the reason for the call and said my husband made arrangements to pay this card off when in fact it was them who when under duress was forced to do this now they will not stop calling and are getting us uspset, as i have a heart condition and my husband is at a dr right now. the only way theyt said too erase this is to file bankruptcy please the only income we have is social security... thank you

Whether they are a law firm or CA when they are collecting an account as third party they need to abide by the FDCPA . IMO you should first send them a DV letter in order to let them confirm that they have the right to collect the debt.
Letters should be sent by the certified mail so have a record.
