I am starting down the settlement path due to being unemployed and behind on credit cards. All of them I have done a check by phone with at some point in the past. Now I am worried that since they keep this information on file, they might try and take their money without my permission. Can they do this? I don't want to switch banks. I like my bank and have been there a long time. But I don't want to be vulnerable either.

only if your credit card and bank account information are the same. For example, if you have a checking and savings with Bank Of America and a credit card through them than yes the bank can withdraw funds from said account.....look through your t&c with the credit card its in there. Hope this helps!

yep...I would bet it states in the t&c that BOA is authorized to collect if not paid as agreed.
