The Debt collector that sued me for the debt I owe on a credit card got judgment by default b/c i didnt show up for the hearing. I know they can sieze things and garnish your wages. what if I am unemployed and do not own anything of value?

I would say since you don't have a job and don't own anything of value, then they will not be able to get anything. Depend on what state you live in, if later on you get a job or do acquire something of value, the can go after it then, depending on how long the judgement is good for.

honestly, its not terribly wise to put off this obligation. i understand youre on a fixed income but i would dedicate something each month. if you ignore it for 4 years your gonna find that the interest that accumulated has made the balance ridiculous!
