Out of the blue, I started getting letters and calls from a CA on an old debt from over 15 years ago. I don't want them to try and make the debt current somehow. I haven't spoken to, or responded to their letters. What should I do to have the CA stop contacting me?

send them a DV(debt validation)letter certified mail return receipt.they can't continue to attempt collections i.e phone calls, letters nothing until they validate the debt.btw what kind of debt?15 yrs is past SOL for just about any debt so if you are sure the last payment was 15 yrs ago send them a C&D letter same way.just know that unless you make a payment the SOL doesn't restart.

Thanks for advice/suggestions. This is an old credit card that last payment was well over 15 years ago. Asset acceptance is the CA that is doing this. I figured they couldn't do anything since debt is so old, but I didn't know what to do about this. So what would be better, a debt validation letter or a cease and desist letter?

Hi,
I know this question posted is a year old but it relates to my current situation. I had a few very old debts from 18+ years ago. About 6 months ago, just like that, a call came from one of the credit card debts. They really scared me, very mean on the phone. Well, I did pay it. But now, last night another weird came. I shouldn't have answered it because it said unknown name/number, but I did. They just asked for my first name and I said she isn't available. The older guy on the phone was very curt and said he'd call back and hung up, wouldn't leave a message. I'm wondering if it's about one of those very old bills. But wow, after 18 years and they're just now doing this? I'd sure appreciate any advice you have.
Thank you.
