I received a phone call yesterday from a man at CFG Holdings in regards to a payday loan I took out with PDL Ventures. He stated that I owed $337 and that last week I made a promise to pay $112 in three installments. I never made this promise, nor did I speak with him. He called from 561-869-4490

He did not identify himself when I called, got very rude with me when I asked what the balance was for, whom the original creditor was, when the loan was taken out or deposited and so forth. I then asked him to verify the debt by sending me a letter, and he said "no we do not send out letters because we spent 20 million dollars in postage for letters that were returned, never recieved or ignored".

He told me the best he could do was email me a statement of my account. He said my account was in the Litigation Department and that I had until 8pm Eastern time on Friday to make a payment of $112 or they would pursue legal action. He went on to say that I would have to pay court costs, etc. and that I would end up paying more than what I owed of the $337.

I can't find any information on PDL Ventures in order to verify that this debt is real. I've been scammed in the past with collectors trying to collect on accounts that have already been paid and I want to make sure that this isn't a scam, but I also do not want legal action brought against me!

I am in Illinois. After reading on here, I believe these types of loans are illegal in Illinois but I'm not sure how to use that to my advantage.

Any suggestions?? Please help!!

hello, being in IL myself i can say both the pdl,and the collector are not licensed anywhere.PDL VENTURES is one of those tribal loans so even if you took the loan you only owe the principle.next this supposed collector must send details in writing when asked to do so.here is what you do.

1)file a police report for the call as this idiot broke the law with the call.
2)use the number you have(either from caller id,or one he gave)or the name of his supposed agency to file AG,AND FTC complaints.then either ignore him,or hang up on him.it is a scam trying to get money that you more than likely don't owe.

I took out quite a few online payday loans so I'm not even sure if I owe this or not. That is why I was trying to get in touch with the original creditor. That payday loan mess got me into the situation where collection agencies are calling all the time. I've learned through this website to verify everything in writing and make detailed accounts of any payments, receipts, confirmation numbers, etc.... but in the past I did not do these things. If the debt is mine, I have no problem paying it. But I would like proof first, and he said he would only email me, not send me anything "in writing in the mail".

Can they pursue legal action against me if in fact the debt is real?

Thanks for all of your help. I do not want to get scammed but I'm also not trying to get out of paying my debts. If I owe it, then I will pay. But if someone refuses to give me proof of what I owe, then that sounds a little fishy to me. Plus I can't find any contact information on this PDL ventures in order to call them to verify the debt.

Don't ask the CA to validate the debt over the phone. Send them the DV letter via certified mail with a return receipt request. If they refuse to validate the debt even after receiving the letter, you can sue them for violating FDCPA rules.

I couldn't find any info about this CA. They seem very fishy to me.

Here's some information about the company from someone that used to work for them.

General Manager:
Blake Johnston
Cell - 617-510-2688

Owners:
Ian McAuslin (President)
Dave Siwiec (Vice-President)

Both owners are personally liable for most debt if they violate the terms of the FDCPA, which means you can sue them for $$ directly and not the company. If they reveal balances on your voicemail, or speak with a third party about your issues. RoVo & Associates is not a real practicing law firm out of Las Vegas and they will not litigate you no matter what anyone says to you on the phone, it is just a cover to scare people into paying their bills. Your best bet is write them certified mail a cease and desist letter requesting validation of the debt to force them into paperwork to proove you owe it, the certified mail also shows they received it and it was delivered which means if they call you again they can be sued. You can report them to your state attorney general as they lack licensing to practice collections in most states. Always verbally cease & desist, always ask for 'backup' which you have a right to see what they have on you.
