I had a car charged off by ford many years ago. I cleaned up a bunch of my credit and have been a relatively good consumer since. Now all of a sudden I have a debt recovery company calling me and trying to collect a debt that isnt even on my report any more. Are they allowed to do that? Is there any thing I can do besides dealing with these people?

If they bought the debt, even if it is out of SOL and reporting period then they can still contact you. What most bottom feeders do it they will watch your credit report and when they see you have cleaned it up they will start contacting you hoping that you will pay them off. Whatever you do, do NOT admit to the debt, do not agree to any payments agreements. If you do they are allowed to put it back on your credit report and the SOL starts over again. Best best would be to send them a validation letter.
