I found a debt that had been charged off by Credit One bank. How to deal with this?

Thank you so much for this, it is truly a gift. I do have a question, After I got a call from an indian scammer, which prompted me to run my credit, I found a debt that had been charged off by Credit One bank. I, as everyone else went through a really hard time.
This bill has gone through several different collectors, too many to mention, tried to work with all of them through Care one Debt Counseling to no avail, and now the bill is with some New York law firm Weltman, Somebody and Someone. If the original debt is charged off, can these people come after me? I listed them with Care one but haven't heard yet.
Oh and by the way, on a side note, I found out that someone got my debit card number and has tried to charge 3 times with it (so I reported my card stolen). Only a dollar at a time, but thank god I don't have any money.
God help these people when Jesus comes. And he is. :)
Any info is great, thanks again.

Hi Lisa--
A few questions will help us to give you the best info we can.
1--youre in New York, is that right?
2--do you know when this debt first became delinquent? Or, if you are not sure, what is the date the account was charged off as it reads on your credit report? That wont be exact, but it could give us enough information.
3--The attorney, was it Weltman, Weinberg and Reis?
4--The account is a credit card? Or is it a different kind of debt?
To give you the basic idea as it stands now, yes they can come after you for the money. But there is a statute of limitations for debts in each state, which limits their ability to collect on old debts.
