I'm not sure about that, but someone else may be able to offer you some advice. I do have a Washington Mutual account that was sent to outside collections, and they told me that when the account was brought current, then it would be returned to Washington Mutual. Has the account just been moved to the CA but not actually sold to them?

I'm not sure if Mann Braken (CA) actually bought the account or were just hired to collect. How do you find that out? Ask Chase or do I have to talk to the CA?

Unfortunately you will now have to deal with Mann Braken. It doesn't matter if they bought the debt from Chase or collecting on consignment for Chase.

In my case, I just asked the CA when they called me whether Washington Mutual still owned the account. That's when they told me yes, and if I brought the account current, then it would be returned to Washington Mutual.

Make Mann Bracken validate that debt, I can tell you from experience they are not easy to deal with and are notorious for charging illegal interest rates and fees. :?

I am surprised Chase sent it out. They have their own legal department and I thought did most inhouse. I would definately get validation before agreeing to anything or sending money. Good luck and keep us posted.

From what I have read, I'm scared. I having received anything in writing yet from Mann Bracken, just phone calls this week. Should I wait to get a letter from them before sending the DV letter or just send it without the written notification.

I had a Chase account that was charged off at $16k, it then went to Mann Bracken who added $3k more, offered a $10k settlement, I told them yes, but when I got the $10k together, the collection went to Hosto & Bucham law firm. They jacked it up to $29k WTF? H&B filed a law suit and tried to get a summary judgment but was denied. They then offered me a $18k cash settlement, I countered with $8k, they went to $19k. Geez!
They finally dropped it to $13k but again they wanted full amount. Makes it impossible to settle a debt. They won't take payments.
I went down to a $2500 offer, and that was the last I heard.
I want to settle, but 1-lump payment, or even monthly payments so high I can't possibly make them is not a smart way to settle a debt.
I offered them $1500/month for 8 months, they said no.
Anyone have any suggestions?
