If I'm not mistaken, a collection agency can't tell someone else who answers the phone in my office why they are calling, right? Check Resolution Center called for me today at work and spoke to someone in my office. They said they were trying to reach me because they had a summons for me to appear in court because of a bad check that I wrote and that I needed to get a hold of them right away. The person left a case number and was very clear that I needed to appear in court. Well, first of all, I dont' intimidate easily. But do I have them on a Fair Debt Collection violation by them divulging all kinds of information as to why they need to speak to me?

third party disclosure is a violation.this is a bottomfeeder CA.i would file AG complaints asap.

I called Check Resolution who denied divulging information to a third party. The lady on the phone even stated that writing a bad check is theft of services. I asked for their contact information to send them a debt validation letter and eventually got it. But I refused to answer questions. Now, if I'm not mistaken, they have to be licensed to collect in my home state right? I live in WA and they are out of NY. They do not have a business license according to the Dept. of Revenue for WA to operate in this state. So they can not collect here. Does anyone know this for sure and what the statue is on that? I'm trying to fax a DV letter as I write but of course their fax is not answering. She did tell me that if I'm going to send them any kind of correspondence, it has to be done before I'm served with any kind of summons otherwise they won't talk to me at that point. So that is a little nugget of information to know.

Its my understanding that they do not need a License to collect a debt in any state. It is better in the event of a complaint and handleing those kind of affairs but legally doesnt need a license.

Outlaw did you do a search here on Check Resultions, there's been a bunch of threads as of late, should give you more information.

outlaw8117, also they have 5 business days to send you a letter regarding the debt that they are trying to collect. As paul said stating that they are going to serve you, is indeed a bottomfeeder.

They did the same thing to me, though I acted like I wasn't here, and they went on that if i didn't call them back that i'd be served with a Summons. That was Oh, I'd say back in Sept, and I haven't heard from them since.

They are not licensed in WI either, and Dfi said they could not collect in my state.

they called me and said I had 3 different criminal charges against me! I lost it at first and just started to cry because I am having a background check for a job. I later called the DA's office and found out there was no such thing. I then called them back and asked who they have criminal charges with and never did answer but got irate with me. I did find out their names and now I am going to call them at home and let them see how it feels.
