First National Collection Bureau: How to deal with this collector

Not to gloat - but I'm so glad I questioned the collection letter they sent on cc debt past the SOL.

It said a judgment was already awarded against me, but they were willing to give me a break - if I pay 60% of the debt in two payments they would clear my record. They even said "the lien would be removed". I'm no lawyer, but to me a lien is a hold against something of high value, like a house or car - how could they be awarded a lien on cc debt?

Anyway....I did my homework & there is no judgment and now First National will soon be cutting me a check for violating the fdcpa.

I have an attorney that is getting ready to file a lawsuit....and if First National was stupid enough to use this scare tactict on others it will be a class action suit.

Chalk one up for the little guy!

Today I received a letter from FNCB, if this is even an account that I had in the past it is not on my credit report and the statue of limitations has run out. Should I still send them a letter? It sounds like fraud to me but I do not want to get stuck with this. If it is real I am more than happy to fix the problem. Any advice??

I, too, received a letter yesterday saying I owed over $400 on a cell phone bill for a phone provider I hadn't been with in over 5 or 6 years! I looked up FNCB online, found a TON of boards like this one, all talking about what a scam that place is. I also looked FNCB up on the Better Business Bureau website. Not only are they not a BBB-accredited business, but the BBB gave them an F rating (A+ is best, F is worst).

I called FNCB to dispute the charge, saying I have no outstanding bills with that phone company, and that if I did--wouldn't they have tried to reach me at some point in the last 6 years? After the guy was snotty with me, I told him about the BBB rating, and about my internet research. He said that FNCB had just recently received my claim, and were trying to collect on behalf of another collection agency (Jefferson Capital), but wouldn't give me any of their information. He said he didn't have Jefferson Capital's information (which I thought was odd since JC contracted FNCB to do work for them), and even if he gave me the phone number, JC would just send me back to FNCB anyway. He then advised me to check my credit report since I was so "into" researching, and call him back.

So instead, I called the phone company directly and spoke with the finance department manager. They had absolutely NO records whatsoever of my account being delinquent, and said that they don't officially "close" accounts until the final bill has been proven collected. The phone company said, and I quote, "Do NOT pay them a dime."

So I called FNCB back, spoke with a different girl. She read the notes, and said "Well, did you go look up your credit report?" I said, "No. I called [phone company] directly to get to the bottom of this." She said "Oh...you did?". I proceeded to tell her about my conversation with them in detail, and she immediately responded "Ok. We'll close out your account now."

Just like that...she didn't even say she needed to verify the information I gave was accurate or require me to send any paperwork at all. Can you say SCAMMER?

well called directtv and they said my account was in a town I have never lived in and they even spelled my wife's name wrong. I offered to have my lawyer call, but the directtv rep said no problem they would cancel it. Then I called the debt collectors and just told them to eat me and to F off I wasn't paying the bill. After reading thei I had fun double dog daring them to come after me and the wife. Best 3 minutes of my day so far. Thanks for letting me know about these scum suckers.

I had a credit card since 1989 and this Company call First National Collection Bureua In of 610 Waltham Way Sparks NV 89434. They first start calling me on the phone and I though it was someone fraudulently open an account in my name when the lady told me she is calling from a collection agency for a debt that I owe I did not remember the name of the company mention so i asked her when was the credit card issue she told me in 1989. And on the phone she start bargaining with me if you pay this today you wouldn't owe this debt. I don't even know if I owe this company that they mention.
I am contacting the attorney general office in regards to this.

I too have received a collection letter from First National regarding an old judgment I received. Problem is, they are demanding twice as much as was awarded in the judgment. Even with interest, the amount demanded is grossly overstated. I was just wondering if anyone else was having this problem with First National

Please let me know if your lawyer will be making a class action lawsuit against these people. I received a letter similar to yours and knowing that I do not have any open debt since I just got a credit report, not to mention bought a house with a loan from the bank who happens to be the original creditor. I contacted them directly and verified what I already knew that the acct was closed in 2003 with a ZERO balance. I called First National Collections back and they threaten to send the dispute to claims or whatever. I'm 9 months pregnant, ready to pop and not excited to deal with this kind of junk. Please let me know if you need anything to help get these people to pay for all the harassment they are causing to so many individuals.

Please Please Please people watch out for this agency. I got a letter in the mail saying i had a debt which i did and i currently cleared up all of my debt with this being the last bill i had to settle. I owed 466 on a really old account and was willing to settle and pay the 233 they offered for settlement. I called and was going to make the deal and then they changed thier minds and said well, we wouldnt even have this conversation if you would pay your bills in the first place. I was very disturbed how they harrassed and yelled at me on the phone. Please avoid this company at all costs. I was able to call the original lender who was very nice and still got the settlement price. I contacted the Nevada BBB and filed a complaint and I highly recommend that if any of you are getting the same treatment, then call a lawyer. We need to protect people from this company that i have no idea who they think they are treating people like this. Do not give any account information to this company. Anyone is more than welcome to contact me and let me know what this company is doing to you . I hope they keep messing with me becasue i will Get an attorney in a new york minute and take these guys down legally.

They called me numerous times while traveling, leaving a 1 second blurt message saying PRIVATE. I checked them out and when their line came up on my caller ID, before they could speak, I said, "I think its the Collection Agency with the fake debt." They hung up and thus far have never called again. Their phone service is provided by Focal Communication through line not far from Ellicott City MD. BTW, I have no proper letter of any debt owed to anyone--so you can form your own conclusions.

They most certainly are the bad guys if they are breaking the law and using abusive debt collection tactics outside the law. You don't think they are the bad guys? How can you not and be sane? Why do you think the debt collection laws were enacted? because these companies make it a routine practice to make money by any means needed.

If they were on the up and up they would be able to provide validating documentation and they wouldn't HAVE to resort to unlawful tactics. If they are NOT the bad guys then why do you suppose these collectors threaten people with jail, with getting their children taken away when those threats are CLEARLY against the law!!!

Why don't you try telling us again who the bad guys are.....

I just received a letter from them as well and was going to call them and give them a piece of my mind because I just recently got my credit score, awesome by the way, and they're trying to get 4k out of me yeah good luck with that. I've never even heard of the company they said I owed and when I researched it the creditor doesn't even exist anymore. Yea if your going to sue let me know. Puthetic individuals I say.

Funny, I just paid a legit sprint collections off from another company and maybe 2 weeks later I recieved a letter stating I owe over $500 for a sprint account(whats even more funny is the full bill I paid off was only $200 and change). I am glad that I know about debt validation and all that jazz cause I would have thrown it in the trash previously. This is messed up. I don't see how they can actually get away with this exploit of taking a paid debt, adding more money to it, and using the fair credit collections act to make it valid if someone doesn't respond. Wow.

Really sucks, cause when I was neglecting all my bills I didn't have to worry about all this. Now that I am paying stuff off, I start getting all this random crap.

I agree with others on not calling and writing them debt validation letters that are certified. Especially some company looking for loop holes to tag you on credit report and get your money. Debt validation, cease and desist. Good old LMTF Alone story.

Oh yeah, and to that person who posted about people tracking by ssn

How funny. Lately the scams about lowering your credit score have been coming in and last night I got one and the middle eastern accented individual did not say anything on the other end as I asked to be taken off of their calling list.

Well low and behold this company fncb decides to call out of the blue. hmmm the only debt I have at collections is for medical bills for which we are taking care of and communicating with that collections agency on.

Some bottom feeders they are. Wish there was a way to send a phone spike back at their autodialers and crash them.

They would be the "bad guys" for calling and harassing family members of the person they claim owes the debt. However, when they are asked to provided information regarding this debt-they will say things like "you have been contacted about this previously" and " you already have that information"; when in fact they have not sent any letters or correspondence. If any company expects to collect on a legitimate debt, they must be able to present the info requested by the person they are hounding. If they cannot, then they have no business contacting anyone. The only reason a company would operate in such a manner, is if they are doing things illegally. Say for example, attempting to collect a BOGUS debt!

#77- Don't have a problem paying my bills, when they are ACTUALLY my bills. Have a very good job, make a decent salary and don't live above my means. I only have a problem paying bills that are NOT mine; didn't acrue them and have no idea what they even are!! If I did owe the bill, I would pay a legitimate company who followed the laws in order to collect the debt. Not giving away my hard earned money to a crooked business out to make a buck on people, when it's not theirs to make.

I received my first collection letter from First National Collections about 2 years ago after moving into my parents home when they passed on,(never received any past ones or bill) They say I owed $11405 from a creditor of AT&T Midwest, But I never had anything in the name of AT&T.
I wrote them to let them know I didn't recall having this debt and asked this comp, for the date/yr of this debt and creditor.
I never heard anything back but now I received a settlement offer of 2 paymts for $57.03 for a but I really thing I never heard of them.( AT&T.) I keep writing them but dont get any answers. What should I do?

My hubby received a letter from FNCB with a claim of a creditor from about 10 years ago. We know this letter is basically a scam to extort money from us for a few reasons. (please think about these things before you begin to pay this company)
1. They are going to reduce payments before ever talking to you. What company would do that? So instead of, for example, $1500.00 dollars the company is willing to take 500.00; really?

2. Within the letter they state that they still need to "obtain verification of the debt". So they don't know if you owe or not they just sent a letter to "see" if you owe (or would be willing to pay).

If anything (if you do owe the money) please make them prove that they are legit and that they are working for said company. If they are not working on the company's behalf that company may come back and try to get the entire amount because a payment may renew that debt. Check BBB and the State of Nevada website and the office of the Attorney General. This company does not seem legit. They have a phone number but no fax, email, or other contact. Strange.

Could you make it a little less obvious that you're shilling for the collection agency? People are well aware that you guys troll sites like these in an attempt to whitewash any negative comments. The cat's out of the bag. If you're going to keep doing it, you could at least be intelligent about it.

The only complaint I have is I sent a fax they never received even though I have the recieved report. For me this was identity fraud but I called spoke with Amadeus and he told me what I needed to do. He was professional and I never felt threatened. I will refax the dispute letter a copy of the confirmation and police report and also mail a copy. We will see how things go after all the information is received. Mine is a fraudulent DirecTV account that was opened at a family members home.

Yeah right, I owe them almost $5000.00, they are dreaming and wishing. I never even had a Best Buy card. I am going to best buy and tell them about this since they are using their name saying i owe money and I am also a Best Buy platinum member or whatever they call it these days. I am hoping since i spend so much money at their store they might take action if I tell them I wont go to their stores anymore as a result of this scam. I am also complaining to the Attorney General. People like this are scum and I will atttack them with what I know as much as I can. This all happened after I cleaned up my credit report and now I owe nothing. They must have access to credit reports or something.
