Does anyone have a sample of a letter that can be mailed to a creditor or collection agency to provide proof the the debit is paid or has been cleared up. I have a few items on my account that say charge off with Zero balance but it does not appear under closed accounts. I called them to check on it and they said that the account has been settled and that I do no owe anymore on this account...(from 2001) Thanks.

Actually, that is the correct answer. A derogatory account can be reported for 7 years + 180 days from the date of first default. Nothing earlier than 11/01 should be showing on your credit reports right now and you should not see anything derogatory from 2001 on your reports after 6/30/09. You want this off your credit reports, that's the quickest and easiest way to do it.

Are you referring to the Date Opened or to the Default date? Does it show NA? On the $0 balance accounts, do they show Charge Off or a "Sold/Transferred to another lender" notations? You can call the reporting agencies and ask for it or you can file disputes due to incomplete data fields. Can you post the tradeline?

LET ME GIVE YOU an exact example. the item i am talking about is a credit card....it says

Date Opeend 12/2001
Reported Since 12/2001
Date of Status 8/2006
Last Reported 8/2006
Status: Paid in settlement
Status Details: this account is scheduled to continue on record until aug 2010.

Is that the original creditors tradeline? This is a TU report correct? Based on your removal date, the DOFD would be February of 2003 (7.5 years). Does that sound accurate to you? It's been almost 3 years since they last updated the tradeline so you take a risk by either disputing it or contacting the data furnisher and asking them to update the status. If you dispute and they verify, you will show more recent activity causing a score drop. If you write them a letter asking for an update to the tradeline, same result. Recent activity on a derogatory. Who's the OC?

Capital One is the org creditor. The report is from Experian. I dont know what DOFD means. I called them and they told me I dont owe anything on this account. but it showed under open accounts not closed.. Should I wait until it deletes off on its own?

I went to annualcreditreport.com and got all 3 reports. Just trying to clean them up....

DOFD is the Date of First Default, when you missed your first payment and never brought the account current. From personal experience Crap1 will report right up to the 7.5 year mark but this one has me scratching my head. Does Cap1 still own the account? It is unlike them to not update for 3 years. As to whether or not to let it age off, as I stated earlier, that's the 2 edged sword of credit repair. If they don't verify, you score a delete but if they do, you tank your score.

Yes I show on all 3 reports that they still own this. I called them on Tues. They said that it was already settled and I no longer own anything on this account. What does each date mean? these freaken reports are pissing me off. I have been busting my ass off for years saving money to pay all my old debit...and now I cant even clear my name...

As Nasscar said, it's a double edged sword, since it's capt1, I'd just let it fall off. Since chances are if you contact them they will udpate the report again.

I had a hell of a time getting capt1 to update their record to "included in bankruptcy". They kept sending me a form letter saying they won't update my account until it was brought to Zero. Ummm hello you moron's it is zero.. oye it's like they don't even read the letter.

I finally had to get my Bankrtupcy attorney involved. (this was a few years after I had filed, and it wasn't schedule to fall off for a few years yet.

As far as each date.. it's just as the report says'
Date Opeend 12/2001 (Date you opened the account)
Reported Since 12/2001 (Date Capt1 started reporting to CRA's)
Date of Status 8/2006 (status date Capt1 updated the report to CRA, probably date you defaulted?)
Last Reported 8/2006 (Last date Capt 1 updated report, when you settled the account)

Ok I guess just let it fall off. I mean I have waited this long and out of the 12 things on my credit file it looks like all will fall off except 2 next years....

Let me ask you all this....out of all 3 of the reports only 1 has things i have never seen. How the hell does that work?
