Welcome to the Community :D I am sure each company has their own set of guidelines they go through before turning it over to collections. However, usually when you don't make payments, they have had the account for a long time, or not make payments or arrangements, they send it to a CA. Or at least that has been my experience. If you can deal with the original creditor and make some type of arrangements, it is much better than dealing with a collection agency. Many creditors have a hardship program if they see you are willing to stick to a pymenet plan, and will drop or lower interest so you can catch up. Feel free to ask questions, and keep us posted . We have been where you are, and there is hope!!..Karen
