The next time they call, write down the number they're calling from. Ask them to send something in writing. They'll refuse. When they do, tell them you're aware this is a fraud and you're reporting them to the FTC, your state's AG and the local police.
Then don't talk to them again, EVER!
Who was the original lender they're trying to collect for? Did you pay off the loan? Was it a legal lender? You'll need to protect yourself with your employer if you signed a voluntary wage assignment. You can revoke it, in writing to the original lender and give a copy to your employer (HR or Payroll).

If they wont say who they are, that is the first indication they are a scam. Hang up!!!

They can also shield their numbers so even if you star 69'd them to call them back at the number they called you, most likely it wouldn't go thru. Chances are that they are in a boiler room somewhere in India or another foreign country. I agree with my fellow mods, this is FRAUD.
