I live in Colorado and got a nasty phone call (at work) today from a guy who stated he was an attorney who represented many companies and referenced the above lender. His English was horrible. I couldn't understand most of what he was saying and several times through out the conversation asked him to repeat himself because I couldn't understand him. He stated I had defaulted on a internet payday loan and he was advising me of what charges they had against me and that a police officer would either come to my home or my work to issue these court papers and that I would have to go to court. They were charging me with 1 count of check fraud, 1 count of theft and 1 count of something else. When I pressed the guy for more info like who the lender was specifically, when it was taken out, how much, which account they had put the money into, why they had not sent something to my home, you know the gambit of basically you need to prove to me this is my loan, he refused and said "I don't have to prove anything to you" "if you don't want this to go to court I can take a payment today of $150 to $300 or you can pay the total amount due of $510. Told him I had to do some research on if this was my loan or not and tried to get his contact info so I could call him back, he refused to give it to me and said I guess I'll see you in court and then hung up. The number listed on my caller id isn't even a valid number as far as I can tell, it's 905000036925. I'm very worried about this, what can I do.

I am quite sure the call you received was from a scam company. These illegal, scam companies try various scare tactics to make innocent people pay them. File cases against them with your local police authorities as you have been threatened over the phone.

You can also check with the phone service provider if they can block the number. They can usually do it but for a charge.

This just happened to me as well. He called and spoke in a foreign language stating he was an attorney and that I have defaulted on a cash loan. He was asking for my attorneys information and was very rude. I told him that all of his information was incorrect and he then pursued to threaten me, to take me to court!! HANG UP ON HIM!!!!!
