i signed up for something called Columbia house online and it said in my contract that i have to purchase 5 full price movies however i did not see this and now months later they are sending me a bill saying if i do not pay they will send it to a collection agency however i am a minor only 16 and the same thing happened to my friend and she told me that her mom said that since we are not yet 18 years of age then the bill is void and we do not have to pay it is that true? do I have to pay it because i have no problem doing so I'm just wondering if i don't pay it will they send it to a collection agency? Will that give me bad credit?

Send the who ever is billing you a copy of your Driver's License (with the number and the month and day of birth blacked out) showing that you are under the age. Tell them that you were not aware of requirement to buy the additional items and offer to send back what they have already sent you.

Without providing your Social Security Number (which I am assuming you didn't) it would be impossible to attach a non-existent credit report.

The contract is not automatically void just because you are a minor. Minors do have the option to avoid the contract; however you 1) need to make that intention clear to them, and 2) you will need to return anything they already sent you. "Doing nothing" or keeping the CDs/DVDs they already sent can ratify the contract and leave it enforceable -- in that case they can send it to collections.

Cellular - the bureaus don't need a SSN to keep a file on somebody. If they don't have a social, they go by name/addr/DOB. So it is possible that a CA could report without a social.
