I got a call last week, and I think I confirmed the debt (orally, over the phone) before actually receiving a validation of the debt. Now that I'm reading more about it, I think that was a mistake.

So, the question is: what if I already confirmed the debt on the phone?

Ok so you acknowledged the debt. That's fine if you did, they still need to prove they are the correct party and collecting the correct amount. No matter what you have the right to demand validation. If they are the correct people to be collecting, then they should have this documentation or can get it.

If they are reporting on your credit report then you have even more rights you can enforce.
