Hiring An Attorney To Represent You - Debts

Contingency
Shazzers, that's a very good question. I'm sure a lot of people that are being walked on by crooked CA's are thinking the same thing. How can they afford to hire an attorney if they don't even have the money to pay the debt?
The lawyer that took my fdcpa violations case against Legal Mediation Practice, did so on contingency. LMP settled out of court, so he just took his fees and his cut right off the amount they agreed on. I didn't make a huge amount off this, but at the time it was more a matter of principle to me. I wanted to show LMP they weren't going to treat me like garbage and get away with it.
As for the collector attorney that attempted to sue me, I had a very good attorney from my local Legal Aide office represent me. She go the case dismissed because of the garbage they submitted as backup paperwork. No muss, no fuss. Of course it wasn't dismissed with prejudice, so they can always try again.
Neither of these cost me any money out of my pocket, and since I didn't have any that was a good thing.
I'm curious to see, though, what other experiences people have had.
debt
We have several good attorneys, in my area. However............just a bit 'pricey' for me. I would love just to clear every debt I have and 'start over'. I do want to add, I have ALOT LESS than some individuals, have posted, on this forum. I don't want to file BK...I don't really think I need to.
