I received a Notice to Cure letter from LITOW LAW OFFICES, PC stating that they represent CONVERGENCE RECEIVABLES. In the letter they state I have until Jan 9, 2009 to correct the default and I need to pay $369.32 by then. After I read the letter I ran my credit report and did not see any mention of Convergence Receivables on it, but I have a listing for UNIFUND CORP. I have never heard of any of this companies and to my knowledge have never received any correspondence from them until now. I assume that the debt they may be referring to is a credit card debt the was written off and sold back in Dec 2006. The amount at that time was around $4600 and what Convergence is claiming I owe is $6450. I am a little confused with what to do next, any suggestions?

Thanks.

i also have been dealing with this litow law office over a balance due on a past bill 3 years ago, i was making payments of 75 dollars a month until i went on maternity leave and had no income at all, they started a garnishment on my wages at work. Then all of a sudden i go to my bank and they tell me that they froze my account, i call them, they tell me until i have the money in my account in 6 business days they were keeping it froze, the amount i originally owed was 800, now they boost it to 1400, i paid this off in full a month ago and still receiveing notice that they are taking me to court, they representatives are a pos and very rude and half the time dont know what the hell they are talking about

I was served papers yesterday from them for a debt on a credit card I never had. The thing is that when I married I hyphenated my name for the very reason that my husband's last name is quite common and so is my first name. This petition is for [Jane Smith] rather than my full name of [Jane Anderson-Smith], so I suspect that they opened up the phone book and picked out the first address in town to serve papers upon. We're listed in the phone book as [Smith, John and Jane]. The sheriff serving even commented that he wasn't sure anyone was home because "the Honda Civic [he] was told was registered to [me] wasn't in the driveway." We do not own a Honda of any make. What Convergence does not know is I'm an attorney myself and I am going to have a lot of fun countersuing for lack of due diligence.

well thats a good outlook on the situation. however consider those whose lives are going good, have a good paying job and have accured a small amount of debt. now consider the economy goes to sh*t and some lose their jobs or get laid off and have a decision to pay on a debt to corporations who are not hurting for money with what little money they can come up with or put food in their families stomachs. you need more compassion for these people instead of being a BADWORDhead. now in retrospect i don't believe all fall under this hard luck scenario but next time you post something maybe you shouldn't generalize everyone as a deadbeat and i won't generalize you as a BADWORDhead. let me guess, you probably work for litow or are he himself, come on be honest oh sorry should i explain the word honest to you, nevermind you probably wouldn't understand.peace

#58 I agree wholeheartedly with you. The big corporations got a huge bailout...but what did Joe Q. Consumer get? nada.

It all boils down to a moral issue and reality. Most people are NOT deadbeats...they are just trying to scrape by. Not to mention that it is your absolute right to make sure that person claiming you owe money is actually lawfully owed this money!

If these companies don't get all the important documentation that would prove their claims, they they are outta luck...by law when they sue they have to show proof...at least that is how it should be...but if you look at court dockets and follow debt collection cases, nine times out of ten they win by default..but when people show up to defend themselves, they often lose!!!!

That really tells you something about the industry doesn't it?

do you suppose these snide comments are being made by an employee of Litow? Wouldn't surprise me.

Today I was served with a district court pettition at law from Cavalry SPV I, LLC represented by Charles L. Litow of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They attached "Exhibit A" which is a copy of a loan promisorry note from my ex husband's bank with me listed as co-signer. What is odd, is I NEVER signed this! The signature is not mine, doesn't even resemble my signature, so in my mind I am not liable for this debt. My ex went through bankruptcy and had this loan eliminated for him, but I never knew I was attached to it. What can I do? I can't afford a lawyer at all. I have been in contact with Mr. Johnson, the lawyer referenced before, but he has stated that if I benefitted in any way that I might be liable? How do I know if I benefitted if I wasn't aware of the loan? Please help!

Unifund Corp is a clearinghouse for charged off credit accounts.

Credit companies bundle customer information together from their charged off accounts and sell these bundles to clearing houses like Unifund Corp and Charge-Off Clearinghouse.

Lawyers and third party companies, similar to Convergence Receivables LC, purchases customer information for pennies on the dollar, and then attempts to trick people into paying an "alleged" debt that was "allegedly" assigned to these third party companies.
