Corporate Receivables, need help!

I opened an account with Best Buy in October 2007, mainly to finance my laptop I needed before I moved to Germany (I'm military). I kept up with the payments until around September 2008, when I went back to the States to get Married. More or less, out of sight, out of mind as there are no Best Buys in Germany. Normally, I'm pretty good at keeping track of my bills, but this one slipped through the cracks. I received a call from CR about a month and a half ago, and after talking to them, I set up payments with them.
Well, with a wife and newborn, on a military salary, my money doesn't go far. The $350 they were asking for was way too much, and I didn't realize it when I set up the payments. I called back to see if there was a way to adjust (after all, I want this cleared from my name ASAP) and one of their bullies (Kevin) kept telling me there is no way, is this check going to bounce, etc etc. He's even told me he ISN'T allowed to set up payments, even though he did (out of the goodness of his heart, I suppose :? ).
I brought this up with my wife's stepmother, who is a Financial Planner, and she said it is against the law to force me to pay more than I can a month. I don't know if this is true or not, but I'm going to assume it is until I hear otherwise. She also said to kill any contact with these guys, unless it was to pay.
Is there any way to deal with these guys? They have my bank account info too, which hindsight is 20/20, and I shouldn't have done that (any advice on this matter is HIGHLY appreciated as well). Is there any way to get a reasonable response out of these guys (or anyone else to pay this too), or am I screwed Royal?

First of all, I would change banks or account information. There is no reason anyone should be having your bank account information. How much do you owe them?
Also, there is no way they were being honest by telling you that can't set up payments. If they want their money back (and I'm sure they do) they can set up payments. They are just trying to bully you in to paying the entire balance now, which they are only going to do as long as you let them get away with it. Call them again, offer them as much as you can pay per month and see what they say. They will try to bully you and get you to pay more than you can afford, but don't let them.

I have set up payments, but like I said previously, $350/check (1st and 15th of the month) if way too steep. When I do offer a different payment, they balk.

When credit cards default, for whatever reason, they are called due in full immediatly. It's just a simple fact. CA's do not have to make arrangements with you but they don't refuse payments either.
My suggestion would be to call back and tell them you can't make the pament and you want to cancle all payments on file. If the agent refuses to do so tell him you want to speak to his manager. If the manager refuses to do so explain to him that it is against the law to deny your demand. Explain to him that you will go to the bank and cancle all incomming ACH's or Check #'s comming from their company if they do not comply. And since you have access to free legal advice explain to them that you will talk to a lawey about sueing their company.
After or before doing all of that you may want to sit down with your wife and make a budget. I applaud you for wanting to make good on this but you should never overextend youself. From then on I would suggest you mail money orders for payment.

Can you quote me the law? I have a feeling they'll pull the BS flag on that one.
