received a call from United Federal Bank about a payday loan that I owe that was taken out in May 2005. A man named Leo Rodgers said I needed to pay $1600 to avoid court fees and being arrested at my home or place of employment. They were willing to accept $300 today if I send a money gram but never gave me the info to do so. I was told I had until 5pm today or I would spend christmas in jail. I asked for validation of debt but they wouldn't give it to me said it was against contract and that I had already rec. via email. (when I do not know). Afraid of what or what not to do can someone please help.

Look up your state laws on recording conversations, many allow you to record without the other party knowing. These scum-suckers want to play hardball? Then go get your big a$$ bat and swing away! I am sure they left you a phone number, call em back and get them to repeat those stupid (and illegal) threats...seriously, blubber about how you can't spend christmas in jail and watch them go for the jugular thinking they have you right where they want you.

Then give them a little christmas present, tell them you just recorded the conversation and will be filing charges against them and suing them in court. :)

Thank you all for your replys. I am just a single mom of 2 and didn't think they could do this but didn't want to play hardball if they might be able too. The problem I have is they won't validate the debt I owe they keep telling me emails were sent to my address and I must have deleted them. I will tkae you alls advice. Again Thank you and Happy Holidays!
