MY NEIGHBOR SAID SOMEONE ASKED HIM ABOUT MY WHEARABOUTS BECUASE I WAS BEING SERVED COURT PAPERS. I AM VERY UPSET. THIS APPEARS TO ME TO BE AN INVASION OF PRIVACY AND IT IS COMING FROM A CREDIT CAR COMPANY. IS THIS LEGAL?

This happened to my sister. She told the neighbors to tell the callers/collectors that they weren't giving out information and to never call again!! Then, sister changed her phone number. When the collector called the next neighbor....the neighbor said hold on, and came back with a loud whistle and blew it in the phone. The neighbor cussed too. The caller hasn't called back.

OHSNAP, I think we need a little more information.

Were these inquiries made by phone or in person??? If this were an actual process sever, and you were really being served court papers, and I have my doubts about the validity of this, in my opinion there was no reason for them to ask your neighbor your location or tell them your personal business.?? The fact they were contacting your neighbor means they had your actual adress, all they had to do was catch you at home and serve you the papers.
If there really are papers to serve you, that is.
If this were just a CA and there were not any "court papers" for you to be served, then the CA is in violation of the FDCPA because they did divulge your personal information.?? The FDCPA states a CA is allowed to contact a third party to get or verfify contact information for you ONE TIME ONLY.?? They are also prohibited from divulging your personal business like that while contacting that third party.
If you can give us some more information regarding this situation, we might be able to offer more advice.

I must have missed something. When did committing fraud be so much fun and OK to do?? It makes me sick that people think debt collecting for a living is horribly wrong, but committing fraud is perfectly acceptable.
