Credit Card Fees

I have about 4 credit cards MAXED out, the limit is only 250-300. I have not paid on them for over a year now. i am getting letters and calls from collection agency's that I owe a balance of 600-800. i now have a job to start paying on them BUT
How can a 250.00 card limit now owe 600.00?

Honey listen, I am now 30 days late on one of my accounts and just got the statement this weekend...not only did they hike the interest to the default rate, they tacked on $78 late fee and then tacked on another $69 over limit fee because they raised the rate and put the late fee on there!
