Last week I checked my credit report and found that one debt is listed by both the creditor and a collection agency. However, the outstanding balance and the default dates are different. I’m wondering how is that possible. Also, what should I do now?

Are you meaning “default date” or “default debt amount”? Do make it clear. It’s good that you’ve checked your credit report. You must dispute an error on your credit report as soon as possible. Any wrong information on your credit report will hurt your credit score and your creditworthiness. In your case, you must talk to your creditors and the collection agency and solve issue immediately.
