Are they suing on behalf of CC Bank or a junk debt buyer? If they are suing for the bank directly, more than likely be able to get their judgement as they should be able to validate and show sufficient proof of the debt.
I would suggest trying to settle on it before it gets to court.

Could I still settle with them before it goes to court, for say half of what is owed? debt+courtcosts+attorneyfees = $1500 (what they are suing for.

Micheal J Scott is an attorney for junk debt buyers, the Plaintiff is the one he will be suing on behalf of. Without proper documentation you have know way of knowing if the suit is legitimate. Do not admit to anything ask in the discovery phase for all evidence pertaining to your alleged debt. He will bank on you not showing up for the hearing that way he gets a default judgment. Remember you also have supplemental answers and discovery you can ask of the Plaintiff. Whether you have an attorney or your going pro se make him prove all things he is alleging. Also all communication needs to be registered mail return receipt and keep all your papers in order.
