CRS scammed both my mother and me!! I had to cancel our debit cards. They called me & cited a debt for a payday loan from a couple of years ago, and they threatened to take me to court for writing bad checks and attempting to defraud a financial institution. I panicked, and promptly caved! The first payment went through as scheduled, but I needed to adjust the next pre-authorized payment. Upon realizing that I could not find their number (which came up as "unavailable" when they called me), I called the original creditor to get the contact info. They had never heard of CRS and gave me the name and # for the collection agency they actually do use. Needless to say, they also had no record of the already-processed payment or the payment arrangements I had supposedly made with CRS for this debt. If these scammers are so freakin smart, why don't they vicitimize people that actually have money to take?????:confused:

Hi!
Welcome to the forums!
Sad to hear that you have been scammed. You should not have succumbed to their threats. This is because, under FDCPA Act, the collection agencies (CA) are forbidden from threatening consumers when collecting debts. There is a very remote chance of getting back your money. Still, you can contact a good attorney. He may be able to help you out.

People who actually have money are smart and they know how to protect their accounts from fraudulent attempts.

That's what mostly happens with all the victims. All collection calls are similar in nature. So, the first thing you could have done is to get in touch with the original creditor regarding your debt. You could have requested your creditor to get it withdrawn from the CA, so that you could work with them upon a repayment plan. In doing so, you could have identified any fraudulent attempt which violated the FDCPA norms.

Sorry to hear you were scammed, they contacted me by text on Monday Hello Miss ....... please contact Sarah at CRS on this number and quite this reference. First thing I did was type in CRS on google and thanks to hundreds of ppl who have written this scam on websites I realised they were fake and ignored it. Then Tuesday another text. Wednesday a phone call to my house phone automated service. Thursday a letter asking for every detail under the sun, account number, sort code, card number, address, security digits, work address and contact etc I contacted the police and they are making the Trading standards agency aware and CRS could be done for harassment plus breach of the Communications Act. Friday 5 phone calls from them. Beyond a joke. Thing is I am really annoyed that they have STOLEN my contact details from a real debt agency which was only referred to on the 3rd January as I completely forgot about my bill over the christmas period. Only ?5 and more than happy to pay it but cant get through to the real debt collectors on behalf of BT - TDX. So right now I just have to deal with the harassment. Hope you get some justice x
