I found this interesting article posted on FB, which I do ot know if its true or not, but in a nutshell it says that now people are getting arrested for not paying their debts.
The article seems to come from a reputable source. Can someone let me know if its a hoax or not?

http://worldtruth.tv/debtors-prisons-in-the-us-are-rapidly-filling-with-people-who-cant-pay-bills/

Just trying to get the right info.
Thanks.

You did not read the entire article

Under the law, debtors aren't arrested for nonpayment, but rather for failing to respond to court hearings, pay legal fines, or otherwise showing "contempt of court" in connection with a creditor lawsuit

Ohhhhh, yep you are right. I did read that but was so frazzled about the people going to jail, that I missed it.
Thank you for explaning it to me.
So like any other lawsuit, we have to show up in court when served with papers and explain our case.
Thanks again for the explanation.

the case of the lady she gave the plaintiff the run around, and gave a check which she stopped payment on.the others i suspect were the same way.if you don't communicate, and live up to any terms set forth in court then you can,and will be subject to what these few were put through.i don't give bottomfeeders any credence whatsoever.

I am totally confused by this last posting. So are the laws changing now where people can go to jail for not paying their debts? I am dealing with calls from a company that calls themselves "DNR" or something like that, but wont give me their address or any kind of information other that I owe a debt and that I am going to be served and go to jail.
I want to add that they have been calling me with the same threat, from different phone #s, too many for me to block, and never been served but withthis new information about jail, I am getting concerned.
I called the sheriff's office to report harassment and they took the report over the phone. They didn't even come to the house to hear the threatening voicemails. All they said was to change my phone # or not pick up the calls.
Are we losing our rights now?
