Aren't they just trying to get me to validate this debt myself? i provided them with his full name (which i guess they only know half his last name) and address (which they do have already), do they really need more? should i respond with a debt validation letter? this response from them stumped me, thanks in advance!

With as many credit card accounts I deal with on a daily basis it wouldn't suprise me if there was a problem with the name. I had an account today the persons name was misprinted it was John Junior Jr II. The first name is fictional for the purposes of this forum posting.
When you send a C&D you do need to include the telephone number to have a better success rate in getting it removed.
