Well now they started calling and my caller Id comes up with a local # but when I answered it was a recording from them telling me to call them. They are not local I live in a small town and they aren't located here.

as fafr as i recall, it is in fact illegal for them to spoof your caller Id like that. if it isnt yet illegal, then there was at least a bill that they were trying to pass into law in 2007 making it illegal for any companies to mislead anyone with their caller ID signature. now, that does not prevent them from blocking it as 'private', but it would stop them from causing a different phone number to show up, no matter what number or name showed up--anything at all other than 'private' or their name/number would be illegal under that law. i havent yet seen if the bill actually became law or not--its called the Truth in Caller ID Act

You might be able to pursue this with the FCC. Caller ID spoofing is illegal for telemarketers but falls under the general category of a deceptive business practice. Go to www.fcc.gov and search spoofing.
