time line?

Hi,
Someone called from a collection agency and are trying to collect a debt from Chase (last payment i made was 5/2010). They mentioned another agency (E.A.F) is going to "make a decision" so i assume they meant legal, but of course they didn't say that. ( I have never received a letter or anything from either company, just from Chase but not recently. My question is this: as one CA is in NY and EAF is in Illinois, do you think they will bother to sue me in California? The debt is about 7K. I am wondering how long that would take to happen realistically. I am planning on going BK in June. How long do these things take to go through the courts? Do i have time to just do nothing? Should i send a DV letter to buy time? Thanks.

It will be better if you could send them a debt validation (DV)
It will be better if you could send them a debt validation (DV) letter and ask them to validate the debt. Unless they own your debt, they won't be able to validate your debt. If they are unable to validate your debt, then you won't be liable to pay off the debt to them and they won't be able to take any legal actions against you. Moreover, when you file bankruptcy, you can get it discharged.
